Dr. Chris Kammer
Integrative Dentistry For
Aesthetics and Systemic HealthEducation: Graduated from Marquette School of
Dentistry, Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.), 1981.
Years at CCD: 1981- Present
For more than 20 years, Dr. Chris
Kammer has been at the forefront of emerging
technologies and approaches in dentistry, and has become
America’s most active advocate for the "oral systemic"
approach of disease prevention. A founding member of the
American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Kammer has
spent his career introducing and implementing
technologies that have revolutionized dental treatment –
changing lives, improving systemic health, and creating
beautiful smiles. His work with the oral systemic
approach, a recent movement in medicine and dentistry
that improves general health by optimizing oral health,
has helped many of his patients gain increased
resistance to chronic disease, including heart disease,
stroke, diabetes, some types of cancer, and Alzheimer’s,
as well as pre-term birth, and obesity. His work in
cosmetic dentistry has helped to change dental protocol
in America and abroad.
Dr. Kammer’s work has been presented at numerous dental
conferences, conventions, and seminars, and has been
published in leading dental journals. He is also on the
technology team for Dental Products Report. In recent
years he has been a passionate educator in the media and
in professional forums about the importance of the oral
systemic approach. His Hygiene Transformation seminar
was the first in the country to train dentists on
performing in-office blood testing and how it relates to
dentistry and systemic health.
Dr. Kammer also trains dentists to serve as media
spokespersons through his Dental Media Power seminars,
is a former chief dental consultant for Reader’s Digest,
and has been quoted in many publications, including USA
Today, The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Redbook, and
Woman’s Day. Madison Magazine did a cover story on him
(“Chris Rocks!”) for their issue about the top dentists
in the Madison metro area. He has also appeared widely
on regional television and radio programs, as well as on
CNN, Fox Television’s Fox and Friends, and CBS
MarketWatch, with brief appearances on The Today Show
and Late Night with David Letterman. He is a member of
the National Dental Network’s “Who’s Who of Dentistry,”
and has been recognized by his peers as “America’s
Favorite Dentist.”
Dr. Kammer was one of the first clinicians in America to
develop a protocol for disease prevention with the oral
systemic approach, using his comprehensive “Gums of
Steel” program. He was an early practitioner of laser
dentistry, and has lectured on it since 2003. He also
regularly gives dental implant lectures that include
live patient surgeries that he performs. His implant and
immediate crown technique is the most popular dental
presentation on YouTube. He was one of America’s first
dentists to offer sedation dentistry, ozone decay
reversal, air abrasion, “invisible” braces,
single-session teeth whitening, and accelerated
orthodontics, which straightens teeth in a few months,
rather than years. He has investigated the link between
oral health and systemic health, jaw dysfunction and
migraine headaches, and chronic snoring and sleep apnea.
He has helped bring the practice of oral systemics from
its early clinical stage to its current widespread
recognition as an important healing approach that
integrates medicine and dentistry. Oral systemics is
based upon evidence that oral bacterial frequently enter
the system and give rise to inflammation factors that
become significant risk factors in a wide range of
health problems. This condition occurs when people
suffer from periodontal disease, which often occurs
without symptoms, and is now present to some degree in
approximately 80% of adult Americans according to the
U.S. Surgeon General. This disease is also present in a
moderate to severe degree in 30% of adults, according to
studies. Oral systemics was the subject of the keynote
address at the 2009 International Association of Dental
Research Convention, and was the sole subject of a 2006
special edition of Scientific American, sponsored by
Proctor & Gamble, the makers of Crest toothpaste.
Dr. Kammer’s work was internationally recognized in 2001
when Proctor & Gamble distributed results of his
orthodontic and cosmetic work to thousands of dentists
throughout the world, and became early supporters of the
oral systemic approach. He has won the Innovator Award
from the Invisalign Corporation, and finished in third
place in one of the first International Cosmetic Dental
Results Competitions, sponsored by the American Academy
of Cosmetic Dentistry. In 2003 he received the Dental
Hall of Fame Award from Generation Next, in recognition
of his role in the communication of the expanded scope
of dental practice in integrative medicine.
